Staying Safe as the Province Opens Up

Canada, and Alberta specifically, are taking baby steps towards opening up. But as some businesses get the green light to reopen, we shouldn’t think for a moment that things are going back to normal. They aren’t. And maybe they shouldn’t. For many Canadians, COVID-19 has been a wake up call for how lenient we are about public health. And our team isn’t innocent. How many years have we written articles about the flu season? We’ve written about how individuals can protect themselves and how businesses can help limit the spread, but what we should have asked is: why is it inevitable that we all catch a cold every fall?

Social Distance. Calgarians are now more aware than ever that they can limit their exposure to pathogens by simply staying a couple metres away from other people. The floors of businesses are now clearly marked to help with social distancing while shopping and we don’t expect this new protocol to go anywhere. It will likely be another two years before we have a wide-spread, effective vaccine but even once we have a vaccine against coronavirus, we can use this distancing to help protect ourselves from seasonal flu and colds. That sounds like a win for everyone!

Working from Home. We’re sure we speak for most Calgarians under stay-at-home orders when we say, everyone is beginning to go a little stir-crazy. Fortunately, with the help of professional Calgary cleaners, we should all, hopefully, be able to go to work soon. However, things are going to change. Businesses owners will have to meet a higher standard of responsibility when it comes to keeping the office clean. That means working with commercial Calgary cleaners, who are able to safely sanitize surfaces to help stop the spread of illness.

Business owners are also going to have to change how they approach illness in the office. Albertans have a culture of just “toughing it out” and going to work even when they’re sick, but that grit won’t be appreciated in a post-COVID-19 culture. Instead, workers should be praised for their social responsibility when they choose to telecommute when they are sick.

Clean & Disinfect Everything. Of course the biggest change facing Calgary businesses is the new standards for cleaning and disinfecting. From daycares to offices and grocery stores, Calgarians are going to expect that every surface is wiped and disinfected daily. That’s a lot of new work for your employees, who are already busy helping little people eat their snacks, serving your clients over the phone, and keeping grocery store aisles stocked. Instead of distracting your staff with new responsibilities, businesses will benefit most from partnering with a professional team of Calgary cleaners.
