April 22nd is Earth Day here in Canada. At Strathcona Cleaners, we think Earth Day is incredibly important. It’s an opportunity for Canadians of all walks of life to consider their actions and how they impact the natural environment. But while we think it’s vital to have national days that prompt extra thought and discussion towards big topics, like pollution and environmental stewardship, we think it’s more important to treat everyday as Earth Day. Here are just a few policies that shape our green cleaning efforts.

Sustainable Purchasing. Perfect sanitation requires the use of some ongoing consumables, but at Strathcona Cleaners we endeavor to purchase products that are made from renewable and/or recycled materials. For example, all of our battery operated equipment uses rechargeable batteries. We also assist our clients in a waste stream audit, to help the businesses we work with to identify what types of waste their company is creating in order to increase recycling and waste diversion (e.g. compost) when possible.

High-Performance Cleaning Team. Many people regard cleaning as an easy, unskilled labour that anyone can do. After all, most of us keep our own homes clean without help. But at Strathcona Cleaners, we work with commercial businesses of all sorts, from hospitals and offices to malls and industry. Cleaning commercial spaces with such variable needs and safety protocols requires careful training. We are able to offer safer, greener practices by providing our staff with training in the hazards, use, maintenance, disposal and recycling of chemicals, equipment and packaging (ie: advanced WHMIS). Our staff can then use their training to take advantage of sustainable cleaning materials that are not traditionally used.

Eco-Friendly Cleaning Equipment. Living and working in a more naturally harmonious environment means more than just purchasing paper products made from recyclable material. Our vacuum cleaners, for example, are all Green Label certified, but they also operate below a 70dBA sound level — because noise pollution is still pollution. Our powered floor equipment also operated below 70dBA, and they’re equipped with guards that capture fine particulates that could otherwise end up in the air. We carefully select equipment with safeguards to help reduce wear and tear on building surfaces, promoting the longest lifespan possible for flooring and beyond.

Our team at Strathcona Cleaners wants to wish everyone a happy Earth Day! If your commercial space could benefit from experience, professional cleaning that’s also eco-friendly, give us a call today!
