Three Tricks for Keeping Your Workplace Tidier

Offices have the unfortunate habit of descending into chaos. As the work week zips by, papers, garbage, and everything in between have a tendency to just get put where ever while your employees rush to answer the phone or to meet with a client. Fortunately, the absent minded messiness that is pervasive in many workplaces can be stopped with a little foresight.

Physical Inbox & Outbox. Most of us have overflowing email inboxes, but at least the email is contained to your computer. When a desk lacks an inbox for physical papers and folders, the mess can slowly begin to devour the desk. A three tiered paper sorter, with removable trays, can solve that problem.

The top tier is the inbox, so team members can drop documents off quickly at another person’s desk. The middle tier is the outbox. An employee can collect all the papers they need to distribute in one convenient location throughout the day, and then they can drop them off in everyone else’s inboxes all at once — and no risk of papers getting lost in the clutter. The bottom tier is recycling.

Having a miniature recycling basket at everyone’s desk will prevent garbage from piling up just anywhere. Each night (or once a week on recycling day), your employees can dump the tray into a larger recycling container, so that one person doesn’t have to empty a dozen individual recycling bins.

Go Digital. Whenever you can, have administrative processes take place entirely online. This will reduce the number of papers in your office, prevent the possibility of losing important documents. It can also improve your company’s image by demonstrating a commitment to environmental sustainability.

Similarly, check whether any magazines or other physical subscriptions coming into your workplace have a digital equivalent. Put a no junk mail sign on your office postbox to prevent the flood of flyers, and enjoy your immediately less cluttered environment.

Work with a Professional Commercial Cleaning Team. An office clean up day is a good way of maintaining some semblance of order, but it rarely provides an opportunity to deep clean the nooks or even sanitize high frequency surfaces, like light switches and door handles.

With flu season just around the corner, it pays to work with a Calgary commercial cleaning team who can help curb the spread of infection while bolstering your business’s professional image to anyone who comes into your office.
