Strathcona Cleaners have been Calgary’s leading green, commercial cleaner for over 30 years. From floor cleaning to full janitorial services, it’s been our pleasure to provide corporate Calgary with a dependable, professional cleaning team. Just one of the ways we pride ourselves on being a step ahead of our competition is our LEED certification.

What is LEED?

LEED is a globally recognized certification in environmental sustainability. In Canada, LEED sets strict environmental guidelines for environmentally friendly practices in all situations, from at home or your large, thriving corporation. LEED requirements are complemented with a point system that promotes competition between Canadian companies to reach the highest tier of environmental sustainability.

At Strathcona Cleaners, we view LEED Canada’s requirements as just a starting point. We have our own Green Cleaning Policy that we follow to ensure our ecological footprint is a small as possible.

What Does Meeting LEED Standards Really Mean?

We mentioned that LEED sets strict environmental standards for businesses that wish to be certified. Here are a few examples of the standards we have to follow as commercial cleaners:

  • Purchases that contain at least 10% post consumer and/or 20% post-industrial recycled content.

  • Purchases contain at least 50% rapidly renewable materials.

  • Purchases consisting of 50% Forest Stewardship Council certified paper products.

  • Rechargeable batteries in battery operated equipment.

Through our person Green Cleaning Policy, we strive to push our businesses beyond simply meeting LEED standards. We are always looking out for the best practices and techniques for balancing flawless cleaning and sanitization with the smallest possible environmental impact. Here are some of the standards we set for our team in order to further reduce our ecological footprint.

  • Staff trained in the hazards, use, maintenance, disposal, and recycling of chemicals, equipment, and packaging (essentially advanced WHIMIS training).

  • Using chemical concentrates with dilution system

  • Using sustainable cleaning materials

  • Using Vacuum Cleaners that are “Green Label” certified and operated at below a 70dBA sound level.

  • Using equipment with safeguards to reduce damages to building surfaces. Reducing wear and tear and the need for future repairs.

  • Ensuring a log of all equipment is kept and equipment is replaced, repaired, and maintained efficiently and effectively.

How Does Choosing a LEED Certified Cleaner Benefit Your Business?

We hold ourselves to LEED standards (and beyond) because we know that it’s better for our environment, but we also firmly believe offering green cleaning is better for our clients as well. Green cleaning improves indoor air quality in your commercial space because we introduces fewer VOCs than conventional cleaners. Our diligence and care towards every surface in your building reduces maintenance costs. Staff and clients will enjoy working and visiting a clean space that doesn’t stink of harsh chemicals, and being ecologically-minded is better for your public image in today’s world.

We’ve always been leaders in Calgary’s commercial cleaning industry, and we’re proud to also be LEEDers. For top notch green cleaning that can’t be matched, look no further than Strathcona Cleaners. We’re here to serve your business.
